Well, there’s not really a patent on our metaliveblog, it’s just the way we’re rolling until Apple’s media team acknowledges our existence and puts us on the invite list. Or, at the least, acknowledges the existence of the iPhone 4 in Mexico. Tomorrow at 1PM Eastern in the US we’ll be liveblogging right here. Bookmark that link, and join us for the mayhem.
Who knows what we’ll see? Not us! Although, we love to make educated guesses. Meanwhile, the latest rumors include the iPad showing up on sale in Target stores, and Bloomberg chiming in that Netflix playback will be included on the next-gen Apple TV.

Hey, do you hate reading? Well, finally Apple is feeling your pain. Tomorrow at 10AM PT, Apple will stream its fall event directly to your Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod as it unfolds. Of course, if you’re a Windows user or you’re wielding some kind of satanic Android device, you’ll be out of luck apparently. Unless we’re misreading this line: “Viewing requires either a Mac running Safari on Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard, an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad.”
At any rate, you can tune to the livestream at apple.com, or if you really care about an untainted and supremely intelligent take on the proceedings, you’ll follow along with our liveblog right here.

Embark on a quest for booty in the upcoming expansion, “Barnacle Bay,” for The Sims 3 — er, wait, we’re mixing up packs here! Rather: You’ll get to explore a tropical paradise in the Barnacle Bay expansion pack, due this fall. Whether you decide to be a lowdown, dirty pirate on the hunt for treasure and grog, or a sightseeing tourist looking to soak up virtual sun, is up to you.
The Barnacle Bay area will be sold exclusively through The Sims 3 Store this fall. Within, you’ll discover new locales such as Founder’s Beach, Goldbeard Galleon Gallery and Pirate’s Hideaway — plus several other locations and NPCs that await your inner Magellan. Put your thinking caps on, friends — it’s time to get to work on dissecting the image seen above. The photo in question was recently emailed to fans of indie dev Gaijin Games as a teaser for the next entry in its musically-inclined series, Bit.Trip Fate. The email accompanying the image included a challenge from Gaijin, who stated “the discerning BIT.TRIPPER will be able to figure it all out.” We consider ourselves pretty hardcore fans of the franchise, and, wow, we have absolutely no idea what’s going on up there.
The game’s official site mentions the title will receive a WiiWare release sometime this fall, so less cryptic information on Fate should surface soon. In the mean time, we’re just going to assume it’s a game about a snake made of light which likes to eat lava.

The leaks weren’t wrong, they just weren’t the whole story. A 160GB PlayStation 3 Slim is indeed coming to the US — Europe, too — but additionally, there’s a heftier 320GB Sports Champions Move bundle. The former standalone console is available now stateside for $299, and according to the GamesCom press conference, Europeans will have to wait until October for 299 Euros. As for the biggie, which includes the game and one-player Move package, that’s due out September 19th in US (or September 15th across the pond) for $399 and 349 Euros, respectively — just in time for holiday shopping sprees.

You might remember that, back in early June, I met with the guys from
Riot Games to play the Mac version of
their free-to-play, DotA title, League of Legends. At the time, they said that they expected to release the title on our platform sometime “later this year,” after they’d finished up their work with
the big Season One update. Now, however, Season One has been out for a little while, and our readers are getting a little antsy — where’s LoL for the Mac?
Riot tells us that it’s still coming. The game did get delayed longer than expected, but in an official statement, we’re told that they “are putting some final touches on the Mac product and expect to ship by this fall.” Season One was the priority, even while we were being shown the preview for the Mac version, but “now that it’s out,” Riot says, “we can focus on finalizing the Mac client and other upcoming features.”
That sounds good. Since I first played the game for that preview, I’ve become a big fan; it’s a quality version of the Defense of the Ancients mod for Warcraft III, and the fact that it’s free to play on the PC (or in Bootcamp, if you can’t wait any longer) is just icing on the cake. We’ll keep an eye out for the Mac release and let you know when it’s ready.

Social Bicycles is a bike sharing system with a twist. Using an iPhone app, the system allows users to drop off, locate, and borrow a bike nearly anywhere. The bikes are equipped with a GPS device which is locked to one of the wheels, and when the bike is locked, it’s locatable using the app, so that someone can borrow it; when it’s in use and unlocked, it doesn’t appear in the app. The real upside to Social Bicycles is that the regular infrastructure required for bike lending systems — such as docking stations in a lot of convenient locations — are unnecessary with this system, which can get by with regular old bike racks, making it a much cheaper, fly-by-night option. It’s coming to New York City in very limited beta this fall, and we expect it to outperform Segs in the City in no time. Video is below.

“Minerva’s Den” will be BioShock 2’s final piece of downloadable content when it arrives on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC this fall. 2K Games announced the single-player focused expansion will have you taking control of an “all-new character,” who teams up with Dr. Tenenbaum (looks like the game didn’t completely forget about her) to “unravel a dictator’s stranglehold” on the Rapture Central Computing district.
Developed by 2K Marin, the expansion — which has yet to receive a price — will feature a “never-before-seen” type of Big Daddy, new plasmids and additional weaponry. Existing BioShock 2 DLC includes the multiplayer-focused “Metro Pack” and the “Protector’s Trials” pack that surfaced earlier this week on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Take heart, freshmen — six months from now, you’ll be kickin’ it on holiday break, while the rest of us working folk glare angrily and curse the wasted chances that haunt us still today. Positive thinking goes a long way, right? At any rate, Barnes & Noble has made sure that its newly announced Nook Study is live prior to the start of most fall semesters and as of today, both Windows and OS X users can head to the source link to get those bits a-flowin’. We’ll be interested to see just how many students take advantage of the portal — not everyone’s keen on digital textbooks, you know — but hopefully it’ll have a better go at things than did the Kindle DX.
